The ENG 1 Medical is a Statutory Seafarer Medical in Accordance with Maritime and Coastguard Agency Medical Guidelines.

The ENG 1 Medical provides a certificate of fitness for seafaring and is required by Merchant Seafarers and other groups as described in the MCA Guidelines.

An ENG 1 medical includes completion of a medical history form and the examination includes a full medical assessment including:

  • Physical examination.
  • Height, weight and Body Mass Index.
  • Eye test to include near, distance and colour vision.
  • Pulse and blood pressure assessment.
  • Urine testing.
  • Audiometry.

Duration of an ENG 1 medical: 45 to 60 minutes.

Successful applicants are provided with an ENG1 certificate of fitness on completion of the medical.

The certificate is valid for 2 years unless medical circumstances require that a time-limited certificate of lesser duration should be issued e.g. 6 months/1 year etc.

Please Bring with you photographic ID and a list of any medication that you may be on.
